The work is part of the series dedicated to buildings and urban landscapes. Each theme has its technique for Mary Cinque and in this case, it is acrylic on canvas. Ha iniziato a ritrarre la città durante il suo periodo a Napoli alla ricerca di una dimensione calma in una città così caotica. The result is almost abstract representations of very clean buildings where lines, shapes, and colors are evident: it is all based on the natural quality of the painting. Except for some iconic London buildings, the artist prefers anonymous, simple, and well-constructed buildings, which due to their humility are often perceived as ugly or neglected. Based on the principle that “form follows function”, Mary Cinque invites us to reflect on the notion of beautiful and ugly and to observe what architectures have in common by naming each work simply with a number.
